Artist from Jamaica ( c.1980 - )
J. [Jerome] Taylor was born in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, and grew up in the Wild Cane district. A self-taught artist, he did pencil sketches on paper as a child, graduating to color with crayons and watercolors, and finally--around the age of 18--to acrylics on canvas. He has been making a living from painting since about the year 2000. He paints at home, then travels to festivals and exhibitions to sell his work.
"I specialise in country scenes because I was born in the country," Taylor said when interviewed by The Gleaner in 2012. "I know what the country looks like. I love the country, the feelings of the country. I love to go way back in the old days. I am inspired by the countryside."
