Artist from Haiti ( 25 April 1942 - before 1997 )
Florence Martinez was born April 25, 1942 in Jacmel. He attended school in Port-au-Prince, and joined the Centre d'Art in 1959. Early in his career he won a painting competition held by the Dames du Corps Diplomatique, and was one of the last painters to add a mural to the walls of the Episcopal Cathedral Sainte Trinite in Port-au-Prince. His very unusual, almost studied, style is unlike any other.
Now deceased, Martinez's work is included in the permanent collections of the Musee d'Art Haitien du College Saint Pierre in Port-au-Prince, and the Davenport Museum of Art in Iowa.
