This painting was commissioned by Patrick Jamieson, who requested the artist create a painting in the style of his 1997 painting Women Carrying Water, which hangs in the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum. Khánh was represented by Tu Do Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City, the first private gallery to open in Vietnam (in 1989) after Doi Moi reforms allowed the formation of private enterprises.
