Gossen Tippa Typewriter (1953)

A Vintage Typewriter

Spanish QWERTY Keyboard - Scarce Black Color

Serial No.: 78337 (The 1953 year of manufacture determination is based on data from the Gossen Typewriter Serial Numbers page at TypewriterDatabase[dot]com.)

Keyboard: Spanish QWERTY - A great keyboard for writing in both Spanish and English.

Typeface: Pica 2.5 mm. (~10 characters per inch)

Footprint: About 12 inches wide by 11 inches deep. The height (with the lid attached) is 2 7/16 inches.

Weight: 8 pounds 11 ounces (with lid)

Condition: Very nice inside and out. The black color crinkle-finish paint is all original; it has not been touched up. This typewriter shows very limited wear to its surfaces. It appears to have spent minimal time outside its case over these past 70 years. (See the provided photos.) The branding and manufacturing info plates are original and in very good condition. The exterior surface and the type slugs have been cleaned, and the type segment has been flushed. The matching black color lid—which attaches easily and securely—is also in very good condition.

This is a later second generation Gossen Tippa (Model A Mk. II) which was manufactured for about three years from late 1950 into 1953. In my opinion, it represents the mechanical engineering pinnacle of the Gossen Tippa line, due to the regular enhancements made following the launch of the first generation (Model A Mk. I) in 1948. While the Gossen Tippa B and Gossen Tippa Pilot models—which succeeded this one—are fine machines, I am partial to the unique look and very solid feel of this model. This machine currently serves as my traveling typer of choice.

This typewriter could be put to immediate everyday use. It types responsively, with the keys moving smoothly and freely. Also included is the original manufacturer's typing test sheet, a new black ribbon in metal spools, and two copies (not the originals) of the user guide, one in English and the other in Spanish. An ultraportable, it is easy to carry with the handle incorporated into its snap-on case lid. (Although, to be extra careful with it, I secure it under my arm or in a briefcase.) It fits nicely just about anywhere a laptop computer does!

All-in-all, this is a magnificent, fully functional, 70-year-old typewriter.

Please note that I am painfully aware of the damage risks entailed when shipping a typewriter. I strive to ensure that your 'new' typewriter arrives at your doorstep in the same condition it leaves mine.
