Kao Vân Khánh was born in Hai Phong City, Vietnam in 1946. He participated in the National Fine Arts Exhibition in Hanoi in 1980, and graduated from the HCMC Fine Arts University in 1982. In 1997, Kao Van Khanh's painting Women Carrying Water won the Vietnam Fine Arts Award. That painting is now in the permanent collection of the HCMC Fine Arts Museum. In 2001, his painting Portrait also won the Vietnam Fine Arts Award.
Kao Vân Khánh lives in Vung Tau, Vietnam. He is represented by Tu Do Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City, the first private gallery to open in Vietnam (in 1989) after Doi Moi reforms allowed the formation of private enterprises.
