Dozens of people and animals populate this large, beautifully rendered market scene. The trunk of the tree in the left foreground is textured, having been painted with a pallet knife, while the rest of the painted surface is smooth.
Typically, the people in Domond's works are distinguishable from one another, but in this one it seems the same bald-on-top man appears to the left tending animals, in the center buying fruit, and again toward the right carrying fish. Who might the artist be honoring this way?
Condition: Excellent in a thin, rustic Haitian wood frame. The painting is as bright and fresh as the day it was completed.
Marche Bruyant was one of 25 Haitian paintings from this collection that were exhibited in the show Life in Bold Colors at Sonoma State University, Sonoma, California in 2007.
